Tetragonally-distorted Mn_62Ga_38 thin films capped with CoFeB of varying thickness and MgO on SrTiO_3 substrates were investigated by element specific X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD). The effects of the varying CoFeB interlayer, and of two different deposition methods for the MgO capping layer on the formation of interfacial MnO were examined. Element specific full hysteresis loops were carried out to determine the easy magnetization axis of the Mn and Co, respectively. The CoFeB shows a perpendicular magnetic anisotropy induced by the Mn-Ga layer. The max. XMCD signal increases with increasing CoFeB interlayer thickness. To verify the L1_0 crystal structure X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements were realized.
